Benjamin C. Thomas email: bthomas@ttmfirm.com Benjamin Thomas received his BS and law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, finishing law school in 1973. After a year as a law clerk at the Arizona Court of Appeals, Mr. Thomas took an associate position with the O’Connor Cavanagh Law Firm which, at that time, was the premiere litigation firm in Phoenix. After six years with O’Connor Cavanagh, he started his own private practice doing almost exclusively insurance defense and coverage work. Over the years, Mr. Thomas has become known as a “guru” on many coverage issues and was one of two attorneys in Phoenix under the age of fifty a few years ago to receive the distinction as a “Legend in Litigation.” Mr. Thomas has lectured on numerous subjects before State Bar groups and insurance defense groups, as well as various other forums, and he enjoys sharing his more than 30 years of experience with his clients and the younger lawyers in the firm. Mr. Thomas is a member of the Arizona Association of Defense counsel and has served on its Board of Directors. He has had roughly 175 jury trials involving a wide range of practice areas, including insurance coverage and bad faith, commercial litigation, personal injury and products liability, to name a few.
Mr. Thomas continues to exhibit a strong commitment to diversity within the legal profession. Mr. Thomas sponsored a writing/essay contest entitled “The Importance of Enhancing Diversity in the Legal Profession: A Law Student’s Perspective.” Additionally, Mr. Thomas chaired a seminar through the State Bar of Arizona entitled “Considering Ethnic and Cultural Issues in Jury Trials.” This seminar emphasized the necessity for sensitivity to cultural and ethnic issues when developing trial presentations to juries in Arizona.
